Cup Cozies

P1010003_2

I'm a tea drinker and like to take tea
with me in the car but it's usually too hot to hold and I don't have any of those cardboard wraps you find in coffee shops to protect your hands. So...I made some cup cozies over the weekend.

It's my own design so they're
pretty quick and easy :) They're made from inexpensive Red Heart Super Saver yarn and they fit these 16 oz. cups that I got at Costco (6" tall, 10 1/2" diameter at the top, and 8 1/4" diameter at the bottom). I made a chain that wrapped around the center of the cup just long enough to meet when it's stretched; mine were about 31 chains.

You can either crochet it as a square
and then sew up the side when you're done or crochet in the round.

If you choose to do it in the round, connect the ends of the chain with a slip stitch then just start crocheting, single crochet, until you get the width that you want - mine are about 3 1/2" wide.

I put some bobbles on my squares,
I think they are so cute and they're easy too. Stitch the ends together with wrong sides facing. I used a blanket stitch for the closing.

The main thing is to remember to
keep the cozy tight. If your tension is looser you may want to do fewer chains.

I'd love to see a picture if anyone
decides to make one. When I get some time, I'll put together a little tutorial with pictures.

Blogs like yours are good to those like me LOL. I've been neglecting my crocheting but really feel inspired to pick it up again. I also bought that book and it's lovely. I love that all the how to's are photographed instead of illustrated. Thanks for the tip :o)

Oooh, I love them - you should sell them for those like me who could never make them! I love them!

So cute! AND the best part is that you're not tossing away a cardboard cozy everytime!!!! :) GREAT idea.

Fun idea! On your advice, I got the Crochet Basics book....hope to have something concrete soon! =)

What a great idea! I love to knit and can follow any pattern, but crocheting is a different story. As a matter-a-fact I was just sitting here on the internet trying to learn the basics of crocheting. When I get the hang of it I will post my tea cozy! I am a big tea drinker too so thanks for the idea.... happy sipping!
