Ferrets!!

Yes, we got two ferrets for Christmas! It all started with my sister calling from Boise and asking if I'd mind babysitting a 10 week old baby ferret for the two weeks until Christmas. Like I'm going to say no; she had me at baby... Well, after one week of taking care of the little girl we had all fallen in love with her. So back to Boise go both my sister and I - she to get two ferrets and me to get one more; like many animals they like a buddy. We were able to get our little girl's brother and my sister got two brothers. There was no way I could hide three ferrets from the kids so they found out early that we would keep the little girl and her brother for us but we'd also be babysitting the other two for a week or so.
The ferret above is Wolfie, our little male.

This is Stella, the little girl that started it all.

Wolfie again, he's waving at you before he goes nite nite. They are amazing animals. Incredibly curious and playful and no fear whatsoever! Their personality is somewhere between a cat's and a dog's.

They sleep about 18 hours a day and when they sleep they are completely zonked out, so funny!

Stella - as a female she'll be about half the size of her brother.

Stella fell in love when I made this "cat" toy. Bells and shiny stuff make them crazy!
I'm putting more pictures, if you can stand it, over at Flickr. My daughter got one of these for Christmas so we'll try and get some video of them playing for you to see too.

I think that you shoult show the pictures of the ferrets! I am in the middle of writing a magazine on ferrets and would like some more information so that I can put all of these ferrets in it. Only if it's okay with you and the owners of the ferrets

HI, I have a ferret too. They are the sweetest animals, really and they seem to never grow up, like having puppies and kittens forever. I am at the moment with only one which I need to find a loving home because my husband and I are leaving to Australia and they wont allow ferrets. It breaks my heart because Luna is 5 years old and old ferrets are not so easily adoptable. She is the cutiest too, she is very small for a ferret like 10 inches...so tiny for an adult ferret. Well wish me luck, my heart is broken and everytime I look at her little face my heart stops. And they dont stink if you take care of them properly and nuture them. PLease dont to the gland surgery cause is has shown in medical research to shorten there little lives and can bring loads of sicknes. If you bath them once a month it will be enough to keep the smell at bay. Well good luck with your new babies. Cheers ALex

Oh, my. These are adorable and kind of scary at the same time.
They're really cute but I think I would freak out if one ran across my foot in the middle of the night in the dark-lol.
I'll be checking back to see how they're doing. Have fun brave ones.

OM Gosh!! I always wanted a ferret after watching Beastmaster. Too bad they are illegal in California. I can love yours from afar. So cute!

Oh they are so sweet!
I've heard they can be really smelly, but make very caring pets.
Enjoy your new family members.

Oh, how cute are these babies? I've only met a couple of ferrets when I was a probation and parole officer in, where? Boise! I read your blog all the time, but had no clue you lived in Idaho. I must have missed some of your entries.

Congrats on the new arrivals!
If you don't already know, they can be subject to intestinal blockages... do speak with your vet about that when you have them altered. I know they need something else in their diet regularly to prevent it, but it has been so long since we had one that I can't remember what it is!
Good luck!

You make me miss my ferrets. My husband and I had two ferrets who have now passed. They were such fun and spunky pets. Both each had their own personality and always made you smile. Enjoy!!

I didn't know a thing about ferrets and now I feel so educated. I didn't realize they made such good pets. Thanks for sharing!! Great photos!

Welcome to the club! :) It's crazy how addicting they are. We only have one, Pickles, because we have so many other pets. Earlier today I brought in a Tupperware full of snow (set on a LOT of newspaper - learned my lesson last year!) and he was sticking his face in it and just going nuts bouncing all over the kitchen. He loves it when we hide toys in snow or in his dig box.
Have fun with your cuties!

Thank goodness we can't have any here in California or your pictures would have me searching the internets.
Have fun. New pets are so engaging.
