Works-In-Progress

I've been eyeing this pattern for awhile and finally decided to jump in.  I would love to make a traditional granny square blanket but at least for now I just don't have the patience to weave in all those ends. This one big granny square blanket is working up fairly fast and with only two ends to weave in per round it's not nearly as taxing.  It's made from Cotton Ease which is one of my favorite yarns.  Being a cotton blend it is much softer to work with than 100% cotton and rates high on the squeeze-ability scale.  I love the colors that are available, I just wish there were more of them. My youngest son has already claimed this blanket while Stripey goes to my oldest son. Next in the queue will be a blanket for my daughter.

My sister and I were talking the other day about what great gifts blankets make.  I love that I can make this for my 9 year old son and he will be able to use it just as well now as he will in college, his first apartment, married life, etc.  When you think of it that way then the time you put into it seems so minimal and worthwhile.

This is my other WIP that is just for me.  It's a long (about 6') and very soft shawl/wrap (shawl sounds so old lady-ish and wrap doesn't sound warm enough).  Done in shell stitch, I'm going to edge it with that rust color (in the picture it looks more orangey than rust but it's not).  I'm about half way on this project but it's moving along pretty quickly too.

For the wrap, I was inspired by the color combination of the Cafe Curtain (pictured above) from Vintage Crochet  - one of my many favorites from this book.

I'm hoping to have some things in my shop for Easter too but with it so early this year and my studio a huge mess it won't be easy.  I do have plans for Mother's Day though!

Loving the Huge Granny Square blanket! I make blankets for each of my 3 nephews birthdays. They do make such wonderful lifelong gifts! I just finished a starghan and have begun a granny square blanket; much like you I despise weaving in ends! One big granny might be just the ticket! Keep up the Wicked Crafting!

Ohhh, I'm so jealous -- your square is so...square! Mine always comes out looking like I couldn't decide what shape or size I wanted it to be so it goes out and in and over this way and back that way...sad very sad. Crochet and I just don't get along. I try...Lord knows I try but, no, we were not meant to be. I will have to stick with knitting. I do love your color combo, too.

Your color choices are perfect! The non-granny square blanket will just be lovely-will it be a square blanket when finished?

Beautiful colour combinations :)
( lol why is it none of us are happy with just 1 WIP )

The colors in your granny square are gorgeous together!

I love those colors together. I wish I knew how to crochet (or more like, I wish I had the patience and willpower to teach myself---I don't right now, though)...

I love the thought of a blanket being loved for years and years. It's one of those "Mom" kind of feelings for me...

love the colour combo.and the square. how big is it going to get..
also hate sewing int he ends, mine always work their way loose..any suggestions?
love

I agree...I love your granny square colors! Great combo!

There seems to be alot of Cotton Ease love in blogland. I didn't know it was such a great yarn. I bought it to make two blankets [for baby gifts] and I'm glad it comes with such great approval. [I'm relatively new to yarn buying.] Your rust color must be terracotta? Used the same one myself and it photographs too orangey.

Thanks for the book recommendation--will check it out at the library.

Oh and to make a long comment even longer...I agree with you and your sister! Blankets are a great gift!

Oh, I am just loving that book as well. It's got me making bobbles like a crazy person.

And I really love your blanket. Very inspiring!

I love the color combination in the granny square! I find it difficult to come up with combinations that work.
