Another Drawing
Thank you everyone for all the nice things you said about my tree drawing. It's hard when I do something that I like and then I hesitate to do it again because I'm afraid it won't come out as well the next time and then I'll feel like I just got lucky the first time around rather than having any real skill. I felt like I had to just dig in and try again. Sounds so wimpy but there it is. Does anyone else ever feel that way?
This is a drawing of a piece of branch from our firewood box. I'm using a mechanical pencil (my beloved Quicker Clicker) and a kneaded eraser. The kneaded eraser is really fun and so helpful with the shading and highlights, plus you can play with it like playdough :)

Nice job! I really like the black and white sketches (compared to colored pencil). I think you have found an undiscovered talent :) and inspired me to find a drawing class!

Your drawing is amazing! The depth and texture you've created is very convincing. Wish I could draw...

I usually find the first thing I make turns out really well and the second always flops, but this drawing is even better than the first. well done!

I think it looks like a prehistoric dolphin-like creature.. the kind that they use to fill in the spaces between dinosaurs when they're trying to illustrate dinosaur-time(and the shading is really lovely..).

That little voice of doubt you described is very common. Just remember to try and have fun and the voice will keep it's mouth shut. You are not being graded and if you don't like something, we don't have to see it. You only have to please yourself.

I don't think you have to worry about whether you have skill in this department. Nicely done. (also, I like hearing about your process - both the emotional side of it and the technical side)
