My family made these bowls last year. Two of the three worked great and are still on display in our home. The key was to use a variety of string types: embroidery floss, yarn of different weights, etc.

We've made "easter eggs" this way. very fun if your kids can handle messy hands. one of my kids wasn't into goo on the hands at the time.
